Alms (Zakah)

Alms (Zakah)

`Zakah is the 3rd pillar of Islam, and it is associated with prayer (salah) in 82 verses in the Qur’aan.  It is financial worship. Take from their wealth a portion for charity, in order to clean them thereby, and sanctify them.” Literal Meaning: Zakah means grow (in goodness) or ‘increase’, ‘purifying’ or ‘making pure’. So the act of giving zakah means purifying one’s wealth to gain Allah’s blessing to make it grow in goodness.
